Team Construction Wins National Safety Award
By Natalie Hansen, Executive Director NUCA of Middle Tennessee
The National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) returned to Naples, Florida for its annual convention in February. The event brings together association members from chapters across the country to network with peers while expanding their knowledge of both challenges and innovations impacting the industry. The convention also provides an opportunity to recognize NUCA members for outstanding achievements in categories like top jobs, chapter merit, community service, safety, and excellence.
NUCA’s William H. Feather Safety Award was created
to honor the contributions of the founding Chairman of NUCA’s Safety Committee, William H. Feather, and to recognize excellent safety commitments demonstrated by other NUCA members. Any contractor member with a strong record of safety is eligible and nominations must be supported by a company safety statement as well as a copy of the company’s OSHA 300 Log (a log of work- related injuries and illnesses) and 300A Summary (a summary of the same). Nominated contractors are categorized by the total number of man-hours worked by the company, and a panel of judges selected by the NUCA Awards Committee evaluates each entry. The panel of judges selects an overall winner as well as a winner from each of the five categories of man-hours worked.
I’m proud to report that Team Construction, a founding member of NUCA of Middle Tennessee, brought home the safety award for the 200k-500k man-hours category. Matt Mingus, Chief Safety Officer for Team Construction, is the president of our local NUCA chapter’s board,
sits on the executive committee of NUCA National’s board, and serves on Tennessee 811’s board of directors. His commitment to safety is reflected in his service to
our organizations and is apparent in the way Team Construction trains and supports their workers. He says, “The Teammates who are in the field everyday working hard and taking care of one another are the ones who earned this award. All of our teammates have our deepest and sincerest thanks for all of their hard work and dedication to working safely.”
Team Construction’s motto is “We Make Safety Happen” and this award supports their claim. Congratulations to Matt and the rest of the “Teammates”.
